Values, Vision and Mission of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University
The Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice is one of the best institutions in the field of education and science, not only in Slovakia, but in the whole of Europe.
The University is currently composed by five faculties – the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Public Administration and the Faculty of Arts. Doctors, dentists, nature scientists, mathematicians, computer scientists, teachers, solicitors, specialists in public administration, psychologists, philosophers and specialists in communication theory are trained here. The graduates from our University, the second oldest in Slovakia, enjoy a good reputation worldwide.
The main task of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice consists in offering higher education based on the latest scientific discoveries in a wide international context. Thus, it conforms to the European developments and objectives as described in the Bologna declaration and other documents. The University fulfils its mission through the development of a harmonious personality of an individual. This is achieved by expanding knowledge, as well as gaining wisdom and creativity.
The students are educated in tolerance, to develop critical and independent thinking, and in individual and national awareness. The University contributes to society by expanding the dissemination of knowledge through research and development, the support for regional and national activities, as well as the construction of a learning society thanks to continuous education. These are the contributions of the University to the enrichment of culture and education in society.
The University understands its mission as a service to the community. The University will continue its mission as a guarantor of freedom, democracy, humanism and ethics, not only in the academic fields, but also in society. It will always protect its academic privileges and its academic autonomy.
