Student Life in Riga

Language

In Riga you can get by in daily life with English. Young people speak very good English, in general, better than the German youth. This will also allow you to practise your English and to have a high level in a very short time.

English is the language of your studies. Lectures, tests and exams are all in English. Latvian is offered as a compulsory course from the second year, as you will need an understanding of the basics of the language to be able to work at the hospital. However, we would like to highlight again that the language of the studies is English.

Accommodation

It is relatively simple to find accommodation in Riga. The city has a wide offer for every pocket. We are happy to help you to find a place to live.

It is also possible to live in one of the university’s student dorms. Prices for individual or double rooms range between € 130-230 per month. Every floor has 2 kitchens, 4 showers, and 2 washing machines that are shared by the students. Every room has a free Internet connection. You will reach the university with public transport in 15 minutes form the student dorms.

Travelling

Riga has its own international airport with direct flight connections to Germany and important European hubs.

Inside the city there is the metro, buses, and trains. With the student card, there is a 50% discount. Apart from that, you can download an app with the current timetables.

Leisure Time

The city has a great offer in bars, restaurants, casinos and clubs. Most of them are to be found in the Old Town, although there is also a comfortable atmosphere in the modern part of town.

The Riga nightlife allows the students to enjoy a typical university nightlife.

In winter, you can go ice-skating in the rivers, an amazing activity which you can’t miss!

In addition, the Cathedral, the castle, the market and the Etnographic Museum are well worth a visit. In the city there is an impressive collection of Art Nouveau architecture.
