The International University of Catalonia in Barcelona recently signed an agreement with the University of California-Berkeley in order to send students to the summer courses offered by Berkeley in California. Due to this agreement, the students will be able to gain credits for the summer school, which will then be recognized at the UIC in the respective degree program.
The University of California-Berkeley is one of the five best universities in the world and is ranked as the best university in the United States. All in all, the university has 70 partners worldwide, but the UIC is now the first cooperation partner in Spain.
The partnership of the universities started, when a delegation from the Berkeley visited the facilities and campuses of the UIC in Barcelona and Sant Cugat. After this visit a final agreement was signed in December last year.
The agreement not only comprises cooperation for the summer school, but also includes research visits. Dr. Jaume Armengou, the UIC Vice-Rector for Academic Organization and Teaching Staff and also instigator of the agreement, has already visited the university for a year in 2012.
Students of many degree programs will be able to apply for the summer school at Berkeley. During the academic year 2016/2017 the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences will take part in this program. The attended classes at the summer school in California will officially be recognized at the UIC Barcelona. All students interested in this summer school have to accredit a certain level of English, which is equivalent to a Certificate of Advanced English (CAE).
The summer school will last 6 to 12 weeks and will take place between May 23rd and August 12th. The registration however has to be completed 5 weeks in advance at the latest.
