Spain’s proud capital offers a colourful mixture of cultural places of interest and modern influences by the younger generation. Many Spanish trends in art, fashion and design have their origin here. As a student of Odontology at the UEM (Universidad Europea de Madrid) you will be part of more than 298,000 students who study every year in Madrid.
Sightseeing & Culture
Try paella on the Plaza Mayor, the main square in Madrid, or visit the Palacio Real, where the Spanish royal family lives. Discover the Templo de Debod, an old Egyptian temple in Parque de la Montana or see the public bullfight arena Las Ventas. The famous Museo del Prado is an absolute must, where you will find the masterpieces by the Spanish painter Francisco Goya.
Shopping
Madrid is a shopping paradise. You will find international fashion in El Corte Inglés, the biggest and most famous department stores in Spain. Not far from the EF school you will find the Salamanca district, with trendy shops. In the weekly flea market El Rastro there are always some funny things to see.
Sport & Nature
Discover the Spanish passion for football by attending a match in the Bernabeu Stadium or enjoy a picnic with your friends in the Parque del Buen Retiro. This garden from the 17th century is Madrid’s biggest green area. In Casa de Campo you can play football yourself or go to the zoo.
Excursions
Geographically, Madrid is located in the centre of the country, which makes it the ideal starting point to go on excursions in the surrounding areas. Experience the lifestyle in coastal cities like Barcelona, Málaga or San Sebastián. Admire the Moorish architecture in Granada, party in Ibiza or discover a bit of North Africa in Morocco.
Entertainment & Nightlife
Nightlife is part of Madrid’s culture. Enjoy a flamenco performance in one of the clubs in Gran Vía, Madrid’s glittering main artery. Eat tapas in a cafeteria beside Puerta del Sol and visit the National Art Museum Reina Sofia. Afterwards, you can dance form dusk till dawn in the countless clubs, bars and lounges.
